History of the Inn

The Inn was built in 1890 as the summer home of wealthy bachelor, Howard Conkling. Howard Conkling was a lawyer from New York City, and a member of the New York State Assembly. He was well traveled and wrote multiple books of his travels. No expense was spared for his home. A 12 foot beamed ceiling, chestnut wainscoting and fabulous keyhole staircases enhance the spacious Great Room, now used as the Guest Sitting Area.

In 1926, Howard Ketchum purchased the home for use as a summer residence. The Ketchum family enjoyed the summers in Lake Luzerne along with their two daughters until the 1980s. Purchased in 1984 from the Ketchum Estate, the summer home was restored by Gene and Linda Merlino. The Merlinos opened their doors as the Lamplight Inn Bed and Breakfast. Over the years, they maintained the Inn and made several improvements and additions.

After 40 years of operating the Inn, the Merlinos retired and George and Mary Haleem purchased the Inn to continue operations as Rockwell Falls Inn and Wine Bar. The Haleem family has brought fresh and new ideas to the Inn and have continued to preserve its charm while adding new amenities for guests to enjoy year round.

The Parlor & Wine Bar

The parlor is the heart of the Inn and is the perfect place to relax, play games or sit by one of the fireplaces. The wraparound porch is a favorite spot to visit with old friends and new, enjoy a glass of wine and watch the world go by. Our cozy and elegant setting is the perfect place to unwind and indulge in a selection of exquisite wines from around the world. Enjoy our selection by the glass or take a bottle home, making the perfect gift!

The Wine Bar is open to overnight guests every night 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and is open to the public Fridays and Saturdays 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Winter hours are Friday and Saturday 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Sun Room Dining

Breakfast is served daily in the sunporch dining room between 8:00 am and 11:00 am. A breakfast menu will be on the table with a daily special on a blackboard. Breakfast is complimentary for all overnight guests. To start, enjoy our Organic Homemade Granola with Fresh Fruit and Greek Yogurt or our homemade pastry of the day. There are several menu options to choose from.

We also serve specialty coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juices, and mimosas. Most of our offerings are 100% organic. Gluten Free options are also available on request.

Grounds & Garden

The Inn’s wraparound porch leads to our beautiful grounds, where you can stroll the original garden steps to the perennial garden, with its turn-of-the-century arbors. Relax on our lounge and Adirondack chairs, or read by the fire and star gaze through the evening.

Across from the Inn is the Pavilion Park and Lake Luzerne Public Beach, a great spot for swimming and kayaking. Live music and food trucks fill the park every Wednesday throughout the summer.

Wrap Around Porch

The 1890 building boasts the most beautiful and comfortable 40 foot wrap around porch. Hanging flowers, wicker galore and lots of tables to get comfortable. Wi-Fi is available indoor and outdoor on our grounds and even in the garden.

Rockwell Falls Inn values accessibility so that everyone can enjoy a seamless stay here in Lake Luzerne. The Carriage House also includes a private suite with a ramped deck for accessibility.
